our journey

Delivering the tools and knowledge
needed in the energy transition

2019

The PhD that started it all

Minviro emerged from Dr. Robert Pell’s PhD research at the University of Exeter, Camborne School of Mines, identifying the potential of applying LCA in the development stage of rare earth element projects. This PhD work established a science-driven approach to minimise environmental impacts and address sustainability gaps in mining and energy. In 2019, participating in the ICURe program validated its market opportunity. This vision broadened to the energy transition, founding Minviro’s mission to transform environmental impact assessment.

FAQ

What is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and why is it essential for sustainability?

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a data-driven method for measuring a product's or process's environmental impacts—from raw materials to end-of-life disposal. By identifying and quantifying emissions, resource use, and waste at each stage, LCA helps businesses pinpoint opportunities to cut carbon footprints, conserve resources, and comply with sustainability regulations. Beyond meeting standards, LCA insights can guide you in making smarter decisions that strengthen your brand and bottom line.

How do Minviro’s consulting services and XYCLE software work together to reduce environmental impact?

At Minviro, we combine expert consultancy with our proprietary LCA platform, XYCLE, to enable companies to scale their sustainability efforts effectively. By integrating advanced analytics and actionable insights, our solutions help businesses align with key standards like ISO 14040 and 14067 and evolving regulations such as the EU Battery Passport and Carbon Footprint (CFB-EV) declaration. This synergy empowers companies to track and enhance their sustainability performance, ensuring compliance and driving meaningful impact reduction at scale.

Can Minviro help my business stay ahead of sustainability regulations and standards?

Absolutely. We stay current with a wide spectrum of sustainability standards and regulations, including ISO standards (ISO 14040, 14044, and 14067), the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (Corporate and Scope 3 standards), the EU Battery Regulation, and the EU Battery Passport. Additionally, we help businesses align with PAS 2050, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), and the European Union Ecodesign Regulations. Our team conducts compliant LCAs, provides strategic regulatory advice, and ensures alignment with current and emerging frameworks. This proactive approach reduces risk, builds investor confidence, and ensures your business stays ahead in sustainability.

How does Minviro differentiate from other sustainability providers?

Minviro stands out due to our deeper knowledge and expertise in the industries we serve. Our consultants are engineers and scientists with hands-on experience in mining, energy, and materials, ensuring highly relevant insights. We use better-quality and representative data to build our models, with 75% of global battery material supply chains mapped using our LCA models. Integrating proprietary software like XYCLE enables companies to scale their sustainability efforts. Trusted by industry leaders, we offer actionable insights and outputs that can help businesses achieve measurable sustainability goals.

How can LCA benefit my business beyond compliance?

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) offers numerous advantages beyond regulatory compliance, enabling businesses to: » Reduce costs: Identify inefficiencies and high resource consumption areas to lower operational expenses. » Enhance brand reputation: Showcase sustainability efforts to build trust with consumers and stakeholders. » Drive innovation: Use LCA insights to develop environmentally friendly products and meet growing market demand for sustainable solutions. » Optimise supply chains: Collaborate with suppliers to reduce emissions and resource use, creating more efficient supply chains. » Mitigate risks: Proactively address environmental risks associated with products or processes, improving business resilience. By leveraging these benefits, LCA helps businesses achieve strategic goals, strengthen market positions, and contribute positively to environmental sustainability.

How does Minviro ensure the quality and accuracy of its LCA data?

Our LCAs are rooted in robust, transparent methodologies and regularly updated reference databases. We maintain rigorous quality control processes, and our consultants hold deep sectoral expertise, ensuring that the data you rely on is credible and actionable.

How can I start with Minviro’s services or XYCLE software?

Getting started is simple. Contact us for an initial consultation, where we’ll explore your sustainability challenges and goals. Based on your needs, we’ll recommend a tailored solution — a full consultancy project, a demonstration of our XYCLE software, or a customised LCA study. With Minviro, you’ll gain actionable insights and tools to drive measurable impact.
