Green hydrogen's premium depends on proof.
Green hydrogen's premium depends on proof.
Without traceability infrastructure, low-carbon hydrogen is indistinguishable from high-carbon hydrogen the moment it enters a shared supply chain. Over two years and £5 million of UK–Australia funding, the HyPACT consortium has built a working system that links a live electrolyser to a verified Digital Product Passport — automatically, at batch level. Workshop 2 is where the people who produce, buy, certify and regulate hydrogen help shape what the standard becomes.

A hydrogen molecule is just a hydrogen molecule
You can’t tell by looking whether hydrogen was made with offshore wind or a coal-fired grid, and once it enters a pipeline it mixes. Most certification today is static, annual and self-reported — not the real-time, batch-level record a genuine premium market needs. Green hydrogen only commands a premium over grey for as long as the proof holds, and right now that proof mostly doesn’t travel with the product.

From live production data to a verified passport — automatically
HyPACT links hydrogen production to a verified certificate through one automated chain: sensor and metering data captured by Certscape, a parameterised LCA engine from Minviro that recalculates carbon intensity for every 30-minute production window, an immutable Hyperledger Besu ledger developed by EDF R&D, and a publicly auditable Digital Product Passport at the end. No human in the loop for batch calculations, so it scales to thousands of batches a month.

The regulation isn't written yet — that's the point
Australia’s GO Scheme launched in November 2025, the EU mandates Digital Product Passports for batteries from February 2027, and CBAM’s definitive phase is live from January 2026 — but the framework for hydrogen DPPs is still being designed. HyPACT is among the first funded projects shaping what that framework looks like, and work done now directly influences what becomes standard. That window doesn’t stay open indefinitely.

Shape the framework at Workshop 2
Tuesday 30 September 2026, Central London. Free to attend — 50 in-person places, unlimited online. The morning is a live system demonstration on real operational data, not slides; the afternoon runs two roundtables, one on the DPP tool itself and one on the market and policy questions that don’t yet have clean answers — including what DESNZ should hear from the room. Producers, offtakers, regulators, certification specialists, investors and researchers all welcome.
